So we could not make it to our league one day so we prebowled. Normally in our league the lanes are freshly oiled and i do great. But when we came to prebowl the lanes were the driest i have EVER bowled on and my spare ball was even hooking too much to throw as a strike ball. As a result we bowled terrible and lost all 7 points (and we were in second behind by about 2 points). My question is, was this fair? should the bowling alley have oiled the lanes before we bowled to make things fair and so our match would be even? Whacha think?

Sorry to say this is fair. I would recommend trying to pre-bowl when other league's bowl if possible or on the same night of your league. Weekends are usually the worst time to make up.

I've pre-bowled many times.. you SHOULD get the standard (8 minutes?) of warm up time that you get in league play. In that time you should have bee able to throw a few frames to figure out the oil. I agree it stinks when the lanes are drier than usual.
